We are a small farm in Northern Illinois, (really small). We raise a few mama cows and finish the calves for freezer beef along with raising laying hens. I also lease and bale about 30 acres of hay.
I grew up on a small grain farm in Southern Illinois and moved up north to work for a registered cow outfit. This is where I ended up meeting my wife and never left. Now, besides the “tiny ranch” I also drive a truck full time and run a custom leather shop.
Although my wife didn’t grow up on a farm, she has always been surrounded by the ag industry. Both sets of her grandparents ran dairy operations along with row cropping. Her dad had a farm milk route that he has now grown into a 30+ truck, trucking company that hauls bulk dairy products. This also happens to be who I drive for.
Nobody ever knows what I’ll be up to from day to day. So I thought I would share my knowledge of cattle and educate y’all on how we run our small operation. You will also get to hear about my 3 little boys and what growing up on a farm is like for them. Hopefully you’ll be entertained and learn something along the way!!!
